After discovering Project Life last year and starting an event based album using the Sunshine core kit I decided that I would continue with Project Life for 2014. While, I enjoyed doing event based layouts I decided to attempt to tackle PL weekly in 2014. It will be interesting to see what I can come up with for daily photos because honestly my life is pretty boring … school, homework, cooking, housework, stuff with Kidlet.
In order to keep myself motivated & on track I did a few things before starting to get myself organized. First I printed out the Card Design Reference sheets found on DigitalProjectLife.Com for all of the core kits and themed cards that I have (both physical & digital). I will have to make reference sheets for my kits that are not posted yet though. I placed these sheets in sheet protectors in a binder. I also printed the cover & spine for my binder that I found over at Bee Tree Studios.
Next, I set up reminders in my calendar: Sunday – upload, edit & print photos, Monday – do journal cards (either write on or print out), Tuesday – post week on blog. Also I set up smart folders in iPhoto that will pull the pictures off my phone and sort them into correct week folders by dates (so freaking awesome)! I have a Canon Selphy cp900 photo printer that I am going to be using to print all my weekly pictures (although not any special trips because I take tons of pictures and it would be cheaper to have them printed by a service). I love the Selphy because I can print wirelessly via my iphone so easily!
Then I purchased Traci Reed’s 2014 Project Life planner from Sweet Shoppe Designs. You can read more about this planner here on Traci’s website. I plan on printing this out monthly at home to save money (the cost of printing at Staples is insane!). This will help me not only plan how I am going to do my weekly layout but, remind me what I actually did each day (I never remember anything .. maybe its old age kicking in).
Finally I loaded my album (Olive for now but, will change when I get a change to purchase another one) with Becky Higgins page protectors in design A and chose the Honey core kit for my main products this year. At some point later in the year I think I will subscribe to the Studio Calico Project Life monthly kits to add some variety so I don’t get bored (or burned out) with my album.
I’ve been exploring my options for organizing my kits and the method using Iris or Cropper Hopper boxes really appeals so me but, my OCD really likes having each core kit in its original pretty box so we shall see what happens! Now, I must go finish my PL layout for last week so that I can have it ready to post here on Tuesday.
